When One Storage Unit Isn't Enough for the Car Collection

When most people picture the inside of a storage unit, they probably imagine boxes, furniture, holiday decorations, and maybe a lawn mower tucked somewhere in the back.

But walk around a storage facility long enough and you'll realize people find all kinds of uses for the extra space.

One of our customers at Stand Up Storage uses multiple units for his car collection.

We don't know the story behind every vehicle, and frankly, we don't need to. What has always stood out to us is the fact that someone who has invested in multiple vehicles trusts our facility enough to keep them here.

That's pretty cool.

It also got us thinking about how difficult finding space for an extra vehicle can be.

Maybe you have a collector car you only drive occasionally. Maybe there's a project car taking up half the garage. Maybe you've added another vehicle to the family and suddenly realized the garage didn't get any bigger.

Cars take up a lot of room.

And unlike a box of Christmas decorations, you can't exactly put one on a shelf.

For the right vehicle, a drive-up storage unit can be a practical option.

At Stand Up Storage, drive-up access means you can pull the vehicle directly into the unit rather than navigating hallways or elevators. We also have security cameras at our facilities, which is especially important when customers are trusting us with something valuable.

Then there's cost.

Dedicated garage or specialty vehicle-storage space can get expensive. We work hard to keep our storage rates competitive, which can make renting a unit worth considering for someone who needs additional space for the longer term.

There are responsibilities that come with storing a vehicle, of course.

The same facility rules still apply, and keeping the unit clean is especially important with vehicles. If something leaks, including oil or other automotive fluids, we expect it to be cleaned up. We want the unit in good condition for the customer using it today and the person who may use it years from now.

Vehicle storage isn't going to make sense for everyone.

But if you've got a car you want to keep and your garage is already spoken for, it may be worth looking at an option you hadn't considered.

Apparently, storage units aren't just for couches and cardboard boxes after all.

Sometimes there's something a little more interesting behind the door.
