Good Storage Shouldn't Leave You Wondering What Happens Next

We recently had a tenant let us know they may be moving out.

Their belongings weren't even out of the unit yet.

Technically, we could have waited.

Instead, we started explaining the process right away.

We wanted them to know how the unit should be left, what we would be looking for after move-out, and what they could do to make sure they were eligible to receive their full security deposit back.

The basic expectations aren't complicated. The unit needs to be completely empty and left clean.

But here's the thing.

It's easy for us to know that. We run a storage facility every day.

The customer doesn't.

Customers Shouldn't Have to Guess

One of the compliments we receive regularly from tenants is that they appreciate how we communicate with them.

That's something we're proud of because good communication doesn't necessarily mean talking more.

It means communicating before someone has to ask.

If something is happening with an account or there's something a tenant needs to know, we'd rather explain it proactively than wait for the customer to discover it later.

Move-out is a perfect example.

A tenant shouldn't finish moving everything out and then wonder:

Was I supposed to do something else?

How clean does the unit need to be?

What happens to my security deposit?

Is there another step before I'm officially moved out?

Those questions are much easier to answer before move-out than afterward.

Clear Expectations Are Better for Everyone

We're still running a business, and tenants still have responsibilities under their rental agreement.

Good communication doesn't change that.

Actually, we think it makes those responsibilities easier to follow.

If we clearly explain what's expected, the tenant has an opportunity to take care of everything correctly.

That helps the customer.

It helps our team.

And hopefully, it prevents an unnecessary surprise later.

Communication Is Part of the Service

When people compare self storage in Greenville or Pulaski, they're naturally going to look at things like unit size, monthly rent, drive-up access, security, and availability.

Those things matter.

But there's another part of storage that's difficult to compare on a website:

What happens after you become a customer?

Can you reach someone?

Will they explain things clearly?

If something affects your account, will you hear about it?

Or will you have to figure everything out yourself?

At Stand Up Storage, we want our tenants to know what's going on from the beginning of their rental until the day they move out.

Storage itself should be pretty simple.

We think the communication around it should be too.
